Journal Clubs

Members of the IPN can join several journal clubs. If you are interested in one or more of these topics, please ask to be put on the mailing list(s).

Our journal clubs have included:

Neural Injury and Plasticity Journal Club

This Journal Club is associated with the Neural Injury and Plasticity (NIP) Training Grant. Students and faculty present papers related to neural injury and plasticity, including articles on brain and spinal cord injury, Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease.

Brain and Language Journal Club

The Brain and Language Journal Club is student-run, meeting biweekly via Zoom. We are inclusive to researchers at all levels who are interested in discussing topics related to how the brain processes language and other relevant cognitive functions. We have been running for over three years, and our meetings are attended by faculty members and trainees from 10+ labs across various departments, including collaborators at other institutions.

At each meeting, a student presents a journal article (either a recent study or review, or a historically important piece of work), and we engage throughout the presentation with questions and discussion. Additionally, once per semester, a linguistics student teaches an intro-level primer on a voted-on topic.

Methods Lab Cognitive Neuroimaging Journal Club

The Georgetown Methods Lab student-run journal club meets weekly in a hybrid format to discuss papers related to neuroimaging methods, with a focus on cognitive neuroscience. Students and faculty from Georgetown and other institutions regularly attend. Other activities organized by Methods Lab include workshops and an annual Brainhack event.

Seminar Journal Club

First- and second-year students are required to attend journal clubs with visiting speakers for the IPN Seminar Series. Senior students are also welcome.

Lab Journal Clubs

Certain labs hold their own journal clubs but welcome non-lab members. Ask around if there is a topic you are particularly interested in.
