Sofia Montoya

Ph.D. Student, Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience

Research Interests: Brain plasticity, sensory processing, neuroimaging

Rotations: Dr. Josef Rauschecker, Dr. Ella Striem-Amit, Dr. Andrew DeMarco

Prior Education: Tufts University, BS Biopsychology 2023

Sofia graduated from Tufts University in 2023 with a B.S. in Biopsychology and a minor in Studio Art. At Tufts, she began at a comparative cognition lab studying pigeon perception before joining the Multisensory Perception Lab working under Dr. Stephanie Badde. Her senior honors thesis focused on tactile-visual integration and awareness.

After graduating, Sofia sought to expand her neuroimaging expertise and joined the Crossmodal Perception and Plasticity Lab under Dr. Olivier Collignon as a scientific collaborator. There, she researched audio-visual integration using EEG.

Now an IMSD trainee in Georgetown’s IPN, Sofia is completing her rotations and plans to pursue research on brain plasticity following sensory loss.
