Paul Edwards

PhD Student, Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience

Research Interests: Neurodegeneration, Translational Science, Neuropharmacology

Prior Education: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, B.S. Neuroscience; Georgetown University, M.S. Integrative Neuroscience

Paul Edwards is a first-year PhD student in the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience (IPN). Prior to beginning his PhD, Paul attended UNC-Chapel Hill for his undergraduate career where he was first introduced to, and became passionate about, neuroscience research. As part of Regina Carelli’s laboratory, his work focused on investigating the neural underpinnings of addiction, following a period of abstinence, in rodent models. Following this, Paul attended Georgetown University where he earned his master’s degree in neuroscience as part of Kathleen Maguire-Zeiss’ laboratory. Here, Paul investigated neuroinflammation in a model of HAND.

To this point, Paul had garnered experience in both behavioral and molecular neuroscience. To complement these fields, Paul worked within clinical neuroscience research in both academia and industry. Having amassed experience in neuroscience ranging from the molecular, to the behavioral, and to the clinical, Paul has become passionate about investigating neurodegenerative disease at a mechanistic level and leveraging that investigation towards informing novel therapeutics.
