Gillian Miller

Gillian graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2020 with a B.A. in Cognitive Science and Psychology. While at JHU, she interned at the Kennedy Krieger institute in the Center for Neurodevelopmental and Imaging Research as well as the Neurobehavioral Unit.

After graduating, she spent the summer working as a therapist for children with autism, then joined the Cognition, Brain, and Autism lab led by Dr. Rajesh Kana where she helped run an fMRI study looking at reading comprehension in autism. In 2022, Gillian moved to Boston Children’s Hospital to work in the lab of Dr. Alexander Cohen. There, she ran an fMRI study of face processing in teenagers with and without autism and developed a neuroimaging database from individuals with a history of perinatal stroke.

Now, as part of the IPN, Gillian is working with Drs. Elissa Newport and Peter Turkeltaub to understand the role of the right hemisphere in language recovery after stroke. To do this, she plans to use fMRI and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) in healthy individuals to understand the capacity for and role in language of the healthy right hemisphere. Eventually, Gillian hopes to develop clinical trials using TMS for aphasia recovery.
