Christy Agbey

PhD Student, Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience
PhD Student, Mocchetti Laboratory

Research Interests: Neuroinflammation, neurodegenerative disease

Advisor: Dr. Italo Mocchetti, PhD

Rotations: Dr. Italo Mocchetti, Dr. Katherine Conant

Prior Education: The George Washington University, B.S. Biology; Georgetown University, M.S. Integrative Neuroscience

Christy is a PhD candidate in the Interdisciplinary Program for Neuroscience (IPN). Broadly, her research interests lie in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, with a specific focus on the role of neuroinflammation in disease pathogenesis. Christy’s thesis research in the Mocchetti lab focuses on the role of the envelope glycoprotein 120 in inducing endoplasmic reticulum dysfunction and amyloid pathology.

She graduated from the George Washington University with a B.S. in Biology and from Georgetown University with a M.S. in Integrative Neuroscience. While completing her Masters, she investigated perineuronal nets in the preformed fibril model in the Lab of Dr. Maguire Zeiss. As an undergraduate, she researched Alzheimer’s pathology and the emerging links between Alzheimer’s disease and type 2 diabetes in the lab of Dr. Jeremic.
