Admission Requirements

All applications for admission are reviewed individually, and admission to the program is on a competitive basis. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will have completed a bachelor's degree in a physical or life science. Also, they should have demonstrated a commitment to a career in research through an undergraduate or post-baccalaureate research experience.

The Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience follows the application procedures outlined in the Graduate School Catalogue. At a minimum, application requirements include the following:

  • Application Form
  • Application Fee
  • Personal Statement
  • Official Transcript(s)*
  • Recommendations (3)
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test only
  • TOEFL (foreign student applicants only)
  • The Supplemental Application

IMPORTANT!   In order to initiate an application to the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience, please complete this Supplemental Application (click) which gives us information on you that is important for us to expedite the application process.  Without this Supplemental Application we have difficulty processing your application.

Students are selected on the basis of academic records, recommendations, research experience and publications, GRE scores, and interviews with faculty members of the program. Interviews are by invitation only and take place in January, February and/or March, with final decisions made by late March.

Advanced Admissions (for matriculation in 2011):  Applicants who plan to begin their graduate studies in 2011 and who would like to obtain an admissions offer a year in advance, are welcome to apply for advanced admissions consideration.  This process is especially suited to applicants who wish to gain full-time research experience after receiving their bachelor's degree, or who wish to spend an additional year in a current research position.  Application materials are due by January 5 2010  -  CLICK HERE for FAQ regarding Advanced Admissions.

PIRE Program

Students in the IPN can be considered for an NSF-funded training Program in Cognitive, Computational and Systems Neuroscience (PICCS), which includes training in various international partner laboratories.

Financial Aid

The Neuroscience Program provides competitive stipend support and health insurance benefits for all qualified students. Full tuition is also paid by the program. For the 2009-2010 academic year, the stipend is $26,500.
