Admission Requirements

All applications for admission are reviewed individually, and admission to the program is on a competitive basis. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will have completed a bachelor's degree in a physical or life science. Also, they should have demonstrated a commitment to a career in research through an undergraduate or post-baccalaureate research experience.

The Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience follows the application procedures outlined in the Graduate School Catalogue. At a minimum, application requirements include the following:

  • Application Form
  • Application Fee
  • Personal Statement
  • Official Transcript(s)*
  • Recommendations (3)
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test only
  • TOEFL (foreign student applicants only)
  • The Supplemental Application

IMPORTANT!   In order to initiate an application to the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience, please complete this Supplemental Application (click) which gives us information on you that is important for us to expedite the application process.  Without this Supplemental Application we have difficulty processing your application.

*IMPORTANT:  Transcripts are the only thing not submitted electronically.   Have your official transcript sent (asap) to:

         Office of Biomedical Graduate Education
         Attn: Ph.D. Credentials - IPN
         Georgetown University
         Box 571411
         NE317 Medical-Dental Building
         3900 Reservoir Road, N.W.
         Washington, D.C. 20057-1411

Because the neuroscience program attempts to complete the selection process by the end of March, completed applications should be submitted before January 15 to ensure full consideration.  For Early Consideration the Supplemental Application deadline is December 1 with the full application deadline of December 15; individuals submitting applications for Early Consideration have a competitive advantage.   Students are selected on the basis of academic records, recommendations, GRE scores and interviews with the faculty members of the program.   To eliminate the possibility (actually, the probability) that your official transcript will take significant time between your request and our (the IPN Admissions Committee) receipt, please send a copy of your transcript to

        Dr. Barry B. Wolfe
        Attn:  Unofficial Transcript (IPN)
        Department of Pharmacology
        Georgetown University Medical Center
        Washington, D.C. 20057

If you have any questions regarding these procedures, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. W. Taylor Johnson, M.F.A., Coordinator, Graduate Biomedical Education, at (202) 687-1379 or via email at johnsonw@georgetown.edu

To complete the application, go to the Georgetown Online Application but be sure to see important information here first regarding applying online.
